What a cookie is

A small file placed on your device by a website. Some are needed for the site to work at all; others are only there to measure how the site is used.

What we place

• Necessary. Keeping you signed in, remembering your place in a book or a puzzle, and recording your cookie choice. These are always placed, because without them the site cannot do its job.
• Measurement. Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager, so we can see which libraries are used and where people get stuck. Only placed if you agree.
• Advertising. Google services that tell us whether an advert led to a membership. Only placed if you agree.

Your choice

You are asked when you first arrive, and nothing beyond the necessary cookies is placed before you answer. You can change your answer at any time through the privacy settings link in the cookie banner, or by clearing the cookies in your browser.

How long they last

Necessary cookies last for your visit or up to twelve months for your cookie choice. Measurement and advertising cookies last up to two years and are described in full in Google’s own documentation.
